Part of the R-Design badge came off my C30 which I found really annoying, but it left this chrome, ghost badge that is actually kind of neat. It’s used to look like this.
Maybe I should get a chrome wrap to match the new format.
Also, here’s the world’s lamest Focus ST.

None of those badges held up for some reason!
Man I haven’t seen one in good shape full color in quite a while
How do you like it though overall?

Shitty glue and smog is a bad combo I guess. I absolutely love the car. Fun to drive, comfortable, and the best looking 2-door hatch made this century.

Maybe our cars are very slowly phasing into another reality.

Did you not know they made those Focus STs?

I totally forgot they existed. They look so funny now especially it being a Focus with the trunk.

It’s just a way of your Volvo telling you to clean the car once in a while... When my mum had a Ka for a while her Ford badge on the rear disappeared the same way. Your Volvo is from the Ford-era so makes sense somehow.

Yeah, it needs a wash. We’ve had rain here recently and we get some pretty dirty rain. Apparently, this always happens with those badges, so I guess it was a Ford thing. Maybe your brother can get me a new one.

Once in a while our cars are covered in orange sand after a storm. That’s supposed to from somewhere in Africa. Wind & Whuthering is cool.

I know about that. It can even make it all the way across the Atlantic.
Incredible. That’s a great record. One For the Vine . Good stuff.

You’ve been catching up on your Genesis! Great choice! And totally on par of our WWI discussion elsewhere! Afterglow !

Yeah, I found a cheap copy of that record recently. Great stuff. It might be their best record. I like In That Quiet Earth a lot, too.

It was the last with Steve Hackett. And it was recorded around the corner of our current office in Tilburg. So of course it’s great. Their best... Not sure but that’s just because they did so many great stuff. Totally different but probably my favorite is Duke. More poppy. But maybe it’s just the memories that go with that one.

Oh, I didn’t know it was recorded in the Netherlands. That’s cool. I wonder if that’s where the Beach Boys recorded their album Holland . That’s one of my favorite records ever. Duke is great. I remember everyone had a copy of that at some point. That’s when they really started having hits.

No, Holland was recorded in a chicken’s barn in Baambrugge. There’s a great documentary on that here . You may not be allowed to see it and it is in Dutch though. They ordered 8 Mercedes at a dealer all at once. That wasn’t that usual back then. They should have gotten Porsches though.

That’s awesome, thanks. Some of the interviews are in English, so I can pretty much follow it. I’ve read about them ordering the Mercs. They definitely should have gotten Porkers. Or, Dafs. They recorded some great music in those years which for a long time was mostly ignored by music fans, but it’s finally getting appreciated. Surf’s Up, Holland, Wild Honey . Really nice rock records.

And you can read Dutch so I presume hearing it ain’t that hard ;-)
Not sure if I’d call the Beach Boys rock though. They did great stuff though. Pet Sounds . And Good Vibrations . Of course.

No, many words are just English with an accent. And a lot of the interviews are in English.
When they played at Ronald Reagan’s inauguration in 1984, there was a big fuss over them being a “rock band.” And, I remember thinking, but it’s the Beach Boys. They’re not rock. But, in the general sense, it’s rock music. My favorite is Smile , which never came out because Brian Wilson had a nervous breakdown. But, some of the songs, like Good Vibrations , came out on other albums and they finally released it as a whole a couple years ago. It’s really beautiful.

but it’s the Beach Boys. They’re not rock.
That’s my line. Totally. It ain’t even all pop. Maybe a bit Easy Listening . No idea what trend we’d call it actually. Everything but rock .
The whole Brian/Depression/Smile thing is a great read. Too bad there’s no car in there otherwise you’d have a great subject for a next piece. Maybe the 8 Benzes in Holland could be a thing. Or maybe you should do a piece on...

I mean, they could kind of rock. It is really pop music, but they were definitely part of the rock scene when they started. That’s what was considered rock.
I like that. A good way to squeeze together Smile and automobiles.
Ligier. Interesting idea.

I know this is old but, uh, http://www.prancingmoose.com/VolvoStickers.html#rdesigninserts
Good luck. I don’t think you can feasibly leave that site without having spent at least $50.
